Chinatown and Kampong Glam: A Heritage Walk with Our Guests

Two of Singapore’s oldest neighbourhoods in one day: the temples and shophouses of Chinatown, then the colourful lanes of Kampong Glam.

Chinatown and Kampong Glam: A Heritage Walk with Our Guests

Singapore’s heritage districts are best seen on foot, with a guide who knows the stories behind the shophouses. Our guests started in Chinatown and finished in Kampong Glam, where they stopped for a photo on Haji Lane.

Chinatown

Chinatown is full of history: the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Sri Mariamman Temple (Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple) and long rows of restored shophouses. It is also the place for a hawker lunch at Maxwell Food Centre.

Kampong Glam and Haji Lane

Kampong Glam is the old Malay and Arab quarter around the golden domes of Sultan Mosque. Haji Lane, one of its narrowest streets, is packed with colourful shophouses, small boutiques, cafés and street art. It is one of the most photographed streets in Singapore.

Good to know

  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring water: it is a walking tour
  • Mornings are cooler and less crowded
  • Cover your shoulders and knees to go inside the temples and the mosque
